Over 44 miles of trails weave their way through and around the hillsides, valleys, creeks, and groves of Santaluz's vast 3,800 acres cradled in the San Dieguito River Valley.   Scattered throughout this inspired setting, you can explore 18 distinctive points of interest within Santaluz on your walking sojourns.

Nearly a third of Santaluz was set aside as natural preserves by the community's land planners to enhance the genuine coastal lifestyle of Santaluz and to showcase the beauty and rare expanse of land and light.

Santaluz is a walker's paradise for all skill levels with miles of impact-absorbing crushed granite footpaths within the community and a variety of connecting regional trails.  Your walk can be a solo adventure to appreciate the beauty and serenity of nature, or a lively family outing to uncover the natural wonders of Santaluz together.

So lace up your hiking shoes and catch a brilliant sunset over the Pacific from Cocktail Hill, watch a hawk floating effortlessly over Lazanja Creek, or simply let the sunlight and ocean breeze be your guide on a new adventure.  The trails of Santaluz will always be your path to relaxation, recreation and unexpected discoveries.


Landmarks

Northern Lights

A double spiraling trail defined by boulders leads to an overlook at the top and a kaleidoscope of panoramic views.
Little Valley
Explore this hidden valley sculpted out of natural landforms with a rocky creek area just south of San Dieguito Road.  A stair-stepped trail leads up to wooden play structures, picnic tables and a grassy children's play area.
Village Green
The 11 acre expanse of gently undulating emerald green grass below Hacienda Santaluz is ideal for everything from leisurely afternoon strolls to soccer practice.
Cocktail Hill
Reminiscent of a national park's ranger hut, this rustic stone structure is perched atop a small knoll overlooking the Village Green and offering panoramic views of the surrounding village, hills and coastline.
The Run of the Knolls
This series of knolls is perfect for a long walk in the rustic backcountry of northeast Santaluz.  The Run of the Knolls also connect to a meandering trail leading to Doug Hill.
Doug Hill
A meandering trail over a pinewood bridge leads you from the base of Doug Hill to the Run of the Knolls trail.
The Old Lookout
Explore remnants of stone structure on this rock outcropping with far-reaching northeastern views.
Village Green Overlook
Get a secret view of the Village as you rest in this natural rock outcropping shaded by trees.
Valley Pond
A tranquil stroll along this serene grass valley through the center of the village leads you to the Village Green, Hacienda Santaluz, and The Santaluz Clubhouse and Spa.  Trail is lighted at night.
Lone Hill
A path to the top of a small hill where you can take in broad views to the north and south from its crown of boulders.
Strawberry Tree
a small green rise with grassy area, picnic tables and boulders for the kids to play on.
Manzanita
Grassy slope with a path that rises to a circular stone terrace with picnic tables and grassy play area.
Willow 
Gradually ascending ridge in the Lazanja creek area with a path and rocky outcroppings.
Horseshoe Ridge
This small knoll with a semi-circle of boulders provides a place to sit and take in the view.
Rockrose
Large boulders spilling down gentle slopes with a wooden play structure for the kids to enjoy, as well as picnic tables.
Southern Lights
This small knoll with lighted footpath offers excellent views of Santaluz, and after dusk, the twinkling valleys beyond.
Ships Prow 
The natural stone formation atop this knoll is a perfect location to enjoy spectacular views of La Jolla Valley.
Grassy Crest
This knoll with a broad mesa of sweeping grass gives you excellent sight lines to the north that include majestic Black Mountain.
